Zoologists study animals in captivity and in the wild with the intent of understanding their habits, physiology, development and relationships with other species and the environment. They are also concerned with how species emerge and how the environment influences their general condition.

Zoologists are able to provide an understanding of animal physiology and development, with particular focus on specific external influences, conventionally derived from their environment. This can potentially inform optimisation of media formulation and bioprocess parameters.
