Synthetic Biology

Applying the principles of design to biological processes in order to develop new tools for health, agriculture and industry.

Synthetic biologists share many skill sets with biotechnologists, molecular biologists, and bioengineers. They design and engineer cells and cell systems to impart new biological functions to those systems (such as the production of new chemicals or proteins, or environmental sensing capacities).

Applications in cellular agriculture:

Synthetic biologists will be vital in cell line development and imparting enhanced properties to cells, as well as in microbial strain engineering.
