Metabolic Engineering

Analysing and designing bioprocesses to enhance metabolic efficiency.

Metabolic engineers are a subset of chemical or biological engineers who focus on analysing, modelling, and engineering cellular metabolism. These efforts are often aimed at maximizing culture efficiency in biopharmaceutical production processes, or for the production of novel compounds by biological systems.

Applications in cellular agriculture:

Metabolic engineers are vital for microbial host development in Precision Fermentation to ensure maximum output of the molecule of interest. They can also assist with cell optimisation for cultivated meat production, making the cells more efficient to reduce cost, or giving them attributes which make the final products healthier or tastier.
